Roles and Responsibilities The British Embassy Dubai has a vacancy for a Trade Investment Advisor for Expo 2020 and Marketing and Communications under the Department for International Trade The Department for International Trade DIT is the UK government department leading on Expo 2020 with a team based in London and a team in Dubai The British Embassy Dubai is leading the overall in-country support for the UK Expo effort including working with the UK Pavilion team at the Expo site once in place The core theme of Expo 2020 in Dubai is Connecting Minds Creating the Future It signals the global need to work together to inspire future generations and to develop partnerships across sectors organisations and geographies to address the many needs of our fast changing world With sub-themes of Opportunity Mobility and Sustainability reflected in the three thematic zones of the Expo Expo 2020 Dubai aims to encourage international partnerships to deliver sustainable solutions to global problems The UK s participation theme for Expo 2020 Dubai is Global Britain - Innovating for a Shared Future led by DIT Led by DIT the UK s participation will consist of a self-build country pavilion with an accompanying business and cultural programme to promote the UK as a world class destination for business education and tourism We are looking for a highly capable individual to deliver a high standard of trade and investment support to British companies looking to enter or expand their presence in the UAE market This is a key senior role in the team and the jobholder will be DIT s officer for the exciting Expo 2020 project leading up to and with legacy but will also contribute to the wider work of DIT across all the major sectors moving on to the Creative Tech sectors and other UK Pavilion themes as directed by the Director of DIT UAE as work related to the Expo diminishes The role also involves working closely with wider Expo team based in the Embassy to ensure that the DIT team provides first class support to UK companies in the UAE The jobholder will also lead on marketing and communications for the DIT team in the UAE which will include Expo 2020 cutting across all the sectors focusing on GREAT Campaign and social media channels Duties and responsibilities Major project work Lead on scoping opportunities organising trade missions and events related to Expo 2020 Collaborating and partnering with the Expo 2020 project team to form a single DIT Expo HQ in Dubai in order to support British companies involved in the Expo in the lead up to and during the event as well as the legacy project Seek and promote opportunities for UK businesses both through the Expo Procurement Portal and supply chain opportunities Supporting UK companies during Expo 2020 itself Communicating the breadth of UK ambition for Expo to UK businesses though social media and marketing Business development Liaise with the UAE DIT team to maintain build and proactively develop strategic contacts with key stakeholders in the market in order to identify new commercial opportunities as they arise and promote UK strengths across various sectors Working with International Trade Advisors ITAs based in UK or through use of DIT services mentor new and experienced UK exporters through the implementation of new strategies and plans to increase their trade activity in the market and connect them with key stakeholders Undertake visits to the UK for promotion of market opportunities Support the development of partnerships with DIT regional offices DIT Sectors Group Chambers of Commerce and Trade Associations Provide written and oral briefing for high level visits including ministers Lead on VIP programmes for Ministers and senior DIT staff visits DIT service delivery Generate export wins export opportunities and other metrics for UK companies to contribute towards DIT targets Represent the commercial viewpoint of the Embassy beyond the DIT team across the Embassy and externally Work closely with the UAE Deputy Director and wider team to assist with the management of DIT events in the UAE including exhibitions seminars and market visits Collaboratively work with the Expo team on cross-sector opportunities in the run up to and during the event as well as legacy programme Lead on being the focal point for other sectors in the DIT team spotting opportunities where there may be a range of Expo specific initiatives Post Expo continue to work on DIT s trade promotion work in the Creative and Tech sectors Monitor and record the trade and investment impact of DIT on Expo as part of the evaluation of Her Majesty s Government s HMG involvement ensuring a return on investment Lead on the DIT teams marketing and communications for the GREAT brand including on social media such as Twitter Wider Embassy activities Contribute towards wider Embassy activities Assist the Embassy team in making arrangements for VVIP visits as required Key competencies required Leading and Communicating -
