Position: Joinery Cutting List Maker
Location: Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) & Dubai Industrial City ( DIC)
Reports To: Production Manager
Job Overview:
The Cutting List Maker in the joinery industry is responsible for preparing detailed cutting lists that guide the manufacturing of custom woodwork, cabinetry, furniture, and other joinery components. This role requires a strong understanding of woodworking materials, production processes, and attention to detail to ensure that all components are accurately sized and optimized for efficient use of materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cutting List Preparation:
Analyze and interpret technical drawings, designs, and specifications to develop detailed cutting lists for joinery projects.
- Break down each project into individual components, specifying dimensions, quantities, and material types required for manufacturing.
Ensure that cutting lists are accurate, clear, and comprehensive, covering all aspects of the project from raw materials to finished components.
- Material Optimization:
Optimize material usage by planning cutting layouts that minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
- Consider material properties, grain direction, and aesthetic requirements when preparing cutting lists.
Work closely with the production team to ensure that cutting lists are practical and align with manufacturing capabilities.
- Coordination with Production Team:
Collaborate with the production team to ensure that cutting lists are understood and followed correctly.
- Provide support and clarification to machinists, carpenters, and other production staff regarding the cutting lists.
Update cutting lists as needed to reflect any design changes, material substitutions,
or other project modifications.
- Quality Control:
Review and double-check all cutting lists for accuracy and completeness before submission to the production team.
- Ensure that cutting lists align with project specifications, client requirements, and quality standards.
Monitor the production process to ensure that the components are being cut according to the provided lists and identify any discrepancies.
- Inventory Management:
Maintain records of material usage and waste, providing reports to the production manager for inventory management and cost control.
- Assist in tracking material stock levels and ordering materials as needed to meet project demands.
Coordinate with suppliers to ensure that materials are available on time and meet the required quality standards.
- Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain organized records of all cutting lists, revisions, and related documentation for each project.
- Prepare and submit regular reports to the production manager detailing material usage, waste, and efficiency metrics.
Assist in the preparation of production schedules and timelines, ensuring that cutting lists are ready in advance of manufacturing deadlines.
- Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve the cutting list preparation process, including the use of software, tools, and techniques to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide feedback to the design and production teams on potential improvements to designs and materials based on cutting list analysis.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in material optimization and cutting list preparation.
Qualifications:
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; a certificate or diploma in woodworking, carpentry, or a related field is preferred.
- Training or certification in CAD software or other design tools is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a woodworking or joinery environment, with a focus on cutting list preparation or production planning.
Experience with reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Skills:
Strong understanding of woodworking materials, including types of wood, veneers, laminates, and hardware.
- Proficient in using CAD software and other design tools to create and analyze cutting lists.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in preparing cutting lists.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the design and production teams.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
