Purpose of the Role:
The primary role of the Head of Department is to provide leadership focused on learning. This involves leading, managing, and developing learning within the department to ensure students achieve remarkable learning outcomes. Key Accountabilities:

- Operational/Strategic Planning: Involves evaluating learning, ensuring conducive conditions for learning, actively monitoring student progress, and implementing learning-focused policies.
- Curriculum: Collaborating to evaluate and deliver a relevant, learning-focused curriculum that meets student needs.
- Staff Development: Involves recruiting, deploying, and developing staff, conducting performance reviews, and providing meaningful feedback.
- Quality Assurance: Establishing learning-focused targets, observing lessons, identifying learning, and ensuring all decisions are focused on learning.
- Management of Information: Maintaining accurate learning-related information, collecting and analyzing data,





and ensuring effective communication.
- Communications: Disseminating learning-related information, representing department views, and fostering effective communication with stakeholders.
- Management of Resources: Efficiently managing physical resources, staff, and timetables to support learning.
- Student Care: Safeguarding students, implementing behavior management systems, and supporting student development.
- Teaching: Undertaking teaching responsibilities, providing exemplary teaching, and contributing to the school community.
