We are looking for an outstanding Careers and Wellbeing Counsellor to join our team at GEMS Wellington Academy A Khail School
**Overview**: The Careers and Wellbeing Counsellor is predominantly involved in providing advice and guidance, which are an important means of helping students and graduates explore their career and higher education options and make plans accordingly. In addition to this they will work as an integral part of the school ethos to help students form healthy goals, mindsets and behaviours.
**Qualifications and skills**:
- Complete fluency in English
- Familiarity with and understanding of recent developments in higher education
- Technologically competent in basic resources and programmes
- Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with British and/or American education system
- Knowledge of the admission system to colleges in the UK, US, Canada, UAE and other European and Asian countries
- Strong commitment to supporting all aspects of our programme, especially through participating actively in the extra-curricular activities and contributing to the life of the school community
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to interpret network-wide strategies to create school goals
**Job Specification**
- To work with the Head of Careers and Transition (HCT) to provide a counselling service for students across the school
- Liaise with school admissions and examinations office to maintain accurate and up to date records on students, including external exam results, internal progress report data and transcripts
- Run individual and small group, face-to-face interviews in preparation for their plans Post 16/18
- Offer and host meetings with students and appointments with parents
- Send individual student transcripts and proof of English Proficiency, when requested with the support of the Exams Officer
- Prepare students for university interviews and delivering mock interviews with external professionals
- Deliver talks on Personal Statements, the American Essay, CVs, covering letters, future of work, apprenticeships, student finance, sponsored degrees etc.
- Deliver careers-related presentations across all year groups
- Manage a year 10 and 12 work experience programme and other initiatives across the Academy
- Produce resources for staff training on topics such as writing references, personal statements
- Contact employers and professional bodies to obtain information about opportunities, recruitment procedures and policies
- Research current labour market information to incorporate into careers guidance resources
- Organise programmes of employer visits, careers fairs, the Higher Education Evening, GCSE Options evening and other related events
- Attend parents’ evenings for students in Years 9 to 13
- Liaise with other schools and colleges to coordinate visits, share resources and use the GEMS Counsellors network to share events such as the Oxbridge Alumni Mock Interviews etc.
- Produce up to date destinations and display on the Destinations Board in the Sixth Form area
- Social emotional support of the students, e.g.
Plan well-being activities and check in on their emotional status in line with the pastoral team and form time programme
- Any other duties as prescribed by your Line Manager
