About the Job:
An opportunity has arisen for a Junior Sommelier to join our teamin Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. The main duties and responsibilities of this role are:
- Control and monitor wine orders, stock and par level.
- Pick up wines from stores after proper checking of the order and quantity.
- Maintain wine chillier at correct temperature and maintain temperature records.
- Ensure all tables are attended during the service; refilling and fresh orders are taken throughout.
- Report feedback and suggestions to the Sommelier and send updates of the availabilities and non-availabilities of the wine stock.
- Ensure proper labelling is done for all opened bottles, transfer or report as spoilage according to set standards.
- Carry out inventories and explain any variances.
- Carry out cleaning of wine chillers for specific outlets assigned.
- Support the service team with their beverage service if needed.
- Support with additional tasks as assigned by the Sommelier.
About You:
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following experience and qualifications:
- Prior experience in a similar role in a luxury hotel or a standalone restaurant,
demonstrating a strong understanding of luxury hospitality standards.
- Proficiency in English is required, ideally complemented by proficiency with a second language (Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, Mandarin, German or Greek).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Extensive wine and beverage knowledge and the strategic ability to sell by using upselling techniques.
- WSET level 1 or equivalent.
