Position :
Senior Consultant - Biodiversity
About the role :
5 Capitals is seeking a suitable candidate to be based in Dubai, UAE.
The successful candidate will be required to work on and potentially manage multiple projects, whilst undertaking technical delivery, engaging with Clients, project stakeholders and being the primary ecology / biodiversity specialist in the team.
If you are the ideal candidate, you will be an all-rounder with a keen interest and qualifications in ecology and will understand and have the ability to undertake IFC PS6 / EBRD PR6 Critical habitat Assessment,
inputs to EIA / ESIA (including deigning and overseeing ecology elements of major projects), preparing biodiversity related management plans (BAP / BMP) Auditing, Due Diligence, field surveys, amongst various work streams.
The vast majority of 5 Capitals environmental planning work is for or on behalf of lenders or projects that are seeking / have sought international finance.
Therefore, the quality of work and interaction expected from this role needs to be commensurate with bankable lending standards, such as those of the Equator Principles, IFC, EBRD, ABD and others

To include the following :
- Provide technical leadership in planning, management, and implementation of biodiversity conservation and management activities at multiple Wind Farm sites.
- Represent the business on Scientific Advisory Committee during meetings with regards to adaptive management and communication with third parties.
- Undertake monitoring and evaluation of ongoing biodiversity conservation and management activities to track progress.
- Coordinate preparation of policy recommendations and position papers to strengthen biodiversity conservation to achieve targets for No Net Loss and / or Net Gain of species identified in the BAP and associated Plans.
- Prepare Executive reports for the business and Lenders.
- Prepare annual and quarterly work plans, budgets, and technical reports on biodiversity conservation and management activities as part of the overall Biodiversity program planning and reporting cycle.
- Coordinate with E&S; Manager on implementation of relevant environmental and social management plans.
- Visit the Wind Farm sites during construction and operational phases to review ongoing biodiversity monitoring and
- Management programmes being undertaken by EPC / PC / O&M; and evaluate adequacy of resources.
- Feedback findings of site visits in Executive Reports to the business and Lenders.
About you :
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of professional experience in biodiversity conservation and management work.
- Specific work experience in wind farm projects or bird monitoring studies would be a distinct advantage.
- Preferably 2 years of corporate experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrable ability to lead & manage staff.
- Demonstrable ability to report to senior management.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (as a minimum). Azerbaijani, Uzbek or Russian would also be an advantage.
- Awareness of Equator Principles, EBRD and IFC Performance
Educational & Training Requirements :
- Science degree or equivalent as a minimum, preferably in ecology, zoology or similar discipline.
- Masters degree in a relevant field (would be highly advantageous).
- Awareness of Equator Principles, EBRD and IFC Performance
- Past training regarding EIA, ESIA, EMS / ESMS, Auditing (would be advantageous).
- Past training regarding auditing, such as ISO14001 : 2015 Lead Auditor certification (would be advantageous).
Language Requirements :
- English - requires fluency in Reading, Writing and speaking (mandatory)
- Arabic, French, Russian, Uzbek, Azerbaijani (would be advantageous)
Professional Certification or Membership Requirements :
CIWEM, IEMA or other relevant professional membership (would be advantageous).
Location & Travel :
- The location of this position is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
- International travel may be expected on occasions, which may require travel at late notice for several days.
Reporting to :
5 Capitals Associate Director (as Line Manager)
Term, Salary & Benefits :
- Contract as per UAE Labour Law with monthly salary (commensurate with experience and suitability).
- Start date ASAP.
- UAE Residence Visa, with labour entitlements (to be disclosed at a later stage).
