Job Title: Joinery Draftsman
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirate
Reports To: General Manager - Joinery
Job Summary:
The Joinery Draftsman is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, plans, and layouts for custom woodwork and joinery products. This role involves working closely with architects, designers, and project managers to interpret design concepts and translate them into precise drawings for production and installation teams. The ideal candidate will have expertise in drafting software, a strong understanding of joinery techniques, and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Drawings and Drafting:
- Prepare detailed 2D and 3D drawings, plans, sections, and elevations for custom joinery projects such as cabinetry, furniture, doors, and wall panels.
- Develop accurate shop drawings that include all necessary dimensions, materials, finishes, and technical specifications.
- Create cutting lists and assembly instructions for the production team based on approved designs.
2. Collaboration with Design and Production Teams:
- Work closely with designers, architects, and project managers to understand design concepts, project specifications, and client requirements.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure drawings are practical and feasible for manufacturing and installation.
- Provide technical advice and clarification to the production and installation teams as needed.
3. Revisions and Modifications:
- Revise and update drawings based on feedback from clients, designers, or production teams.
- Make adjustments to designs to accommodate site conditions, material availability, or other practical considerations.
- Ensure that all revisions are properly documented and communicated to the relevant teams.
4. Quality Control and Accuracy:
- Ensure all drawings adhere to the company’s quality standards and are free of errors.
- Conduct thorough checks to verify the accuracy of dimensions, materials, and technical details before final submission.
- Ensure that drawings are clear, concise, and easy to understand by both the production and installation teams.
5. Material and Component Specifications:
- Specify appropriate materials, hardware, and finishes based on project requirements.
- Provide detailed information on joinery components, such as hinges, handles,
and fittings, ensuring compatibility with the overall design.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure materials are available as specified in the drawings.
6. Project Documentation and Archiving:
- Maintain organized records of all drawings, revisions, and project-related documents.
- Ensure that final drawings are properly archived for future reference and project close-out.
- Provide as-built drawings upon project completion, if required.
7. Site and Client Interaction:
- Occasionally visit project sites to take measurements, verify conditions, and ensure drawings reflect real-site dimensions.
- Liaise with clients, designers, and project managers to clarify design elements and resolve any drawing-related queries.

Software Proficiency and Innovation:
- Stay updated with the latest versions of drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, SolidWorks) and continuously improve drafting skills.
- Suggest improvements or innovations in design workflows to increase efficiency and quality.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Wood Technology, or a related field.
- Proficiency in drafting software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of joinery materials, woodworking techniques, and construction methods.
Skills:
- Excellent technical drawing and drafting skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Good understanding of joinery processes, materials, and installation methods.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with design, production, and project teams.
- Ability to interpret and create detailed drawings based on architectural plans and client specifications.
- Knowledge of drafting standards, tolerances, and quality control procedures.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a draftsman in the joinery, woodworking, or construction industry.
- Experience creating detailed shop drawings for high-end custom joinery projects.
- Familiarity with working on large-scale residential, commercial, or hospitality projects is an advantage.
