A Junior Sous Chef (Banqueting) is responsible for assisting the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in preparing large-scale events, such as weddings, corporate functions and other banquets. The role involves managing kitchen operations for these events, ensuring high-quality food preparation and service standards.

What will I be doing?

This role is vital in ensuring the success of high-quality banqueting services, focusing on both the back of house operations and collaboration with front of house teams for seamless event execution. Specifically,





you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

1. Assist in planning and preparing dishes according to the banquet event menus.
2. Ensure food is prepared to the highest standards of taste and presentation, in line with guest requirements.
3. Maintain consistency and quality across all dishes.
4. Supervise kitchen staff during event preparations, ensuring efficiency and timely service.
5. Assist in the management of the kitchen during events, ensuring that dishes are delivered on time.
6. Monitor portion control and waste reduction efforts.
7. Support the Sous Chef in training and developing kitchen staff.
8. Act as a leader in the absence of the Sous Chef, delegating tasks and managing team workflow.
9. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen.
10. Assist in managing inventory and ensuring the kitchen is stocked with necessary ingredients and supplies.
11. Coordinate with suppliers for event-specific ingredients,





keeping track of orders and deliveries.
12. Help maintain accurate records of food costs and expenditures.
13. Collaborate with event planners and service teams to ensure smooth execution of events.
14. Attend pre-event meetings to understand guest needs and customize menus where necessary.
15. Address any on-site changes or requests from guests during the event.
16. Ensure that all kitchen operations meet food safety standards and hygiene practices.
17. Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and storage areas.
18. Enforce proper use and care of kitchen equipment.
19. Assist the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in developing new menu items or event-specific dishes.
20. Provide input on seasonal menu changes or special requests based on event themes.
21.





Provide a safe and secure environment by adhering to the company Health & Safety and Food Safety policies ensuring all areas are compliant with audit requirements.

The Junior Sous Chef (Banqueting) serving Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is always working on behalf of our guests and working with other team members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, knowledge, skills, and values that follow:

1. All selected candidates are required to undergo a food trial in our kitchen.
2. Previous experience in a kitchen, ideally in a banqueting or events setting.
3. Strong cooking skills, with knowledge of a wide range of cuisines.
4. Strong Supervisory/Management skills required.





Proven ability to lead and manage a team.
5. Strong communication skills to interact with kitchen staff and other departments.
6. Ability to work efficiently under pressure, especially during large-scale events.
7. Attention to Detail - Ensuring consistency in taste, presentation, and food safety.
8. High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Advance degree or specialized training in Pastry is highly desirable.
9. Ability to stand for long periods.
10. Lift and move kitchen equipment or supplies when necessary.
11. Food hygiene and HACCP certificate.

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

1. Luxury hospitality experience in a similar role.
2. Specialized in a banqueting or events setting.






3. Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends, days, afternoons and evenings.
